We went to the Green Cay Nature Center for a special group presentation of Reptiles and Amphibians. We learned about the lifestyles and characteristics of herps, how they fit in the food chain, what it means to be cold-blooded, and also what herps live in our Florida wetlands and why they are important to this wetland habitat. It was a wonderful hands-on lecture and the children had opportunities to touch: turtle shell, snake skin (shed), raccoon pelt, baby alligator, and glass lizard.
The Nature Center has a 1.5 mile elevated boardwalk that goes through a typical South Florida Wetland with interpretive signs detailing some of the sights which include:
- Various Wildlife
- Emergent Marshes
- Deep Zones
- Alligator Hole
- Cypress Swamp
- Hammock Islands
- Seminole Chickee Hut
I will blog about this study as we go along, so please stay tuned.

Sounds like a great trip -- educational and lots of fun, always the best combo.
Sorry I have been out of the loop lately. A month of non-stop disasters and emergencies will do that to ya, I guess.
It was good to hear from you! Hope you are having a wonderful week :-)
