Yes, I'm that kind of mother

Friday, August 29, 2008

I was recently summoned out of my warm shower to "hurry up and come look in the pool!"
So of course I quickly finished my shower, threw on some clothes, grabbed Cutie Pie and headed down to the pool.

What did I find there?

A Snake.

To be more specific, a Southern Ringneck Snake
Yes, I now know these sort of things thanks to: my array of field guides, the internet and my children who obsess about these sorts of things.

If you had told me 6 years ago that I would end up being the sort of mother who jumps out of her shower (car, golf cart etc.) to quickly catch a snake (grasshopper, moth, insect, turtle, frog, toad, etc.) I would have told you FLAT OUT that you are C-R-A-Z-Y

Oh, how times have changed...and don't think I'm not loving every second of it.

Pictured above: Lubber Grasshopper, Rat Snake, Praying Mantids w/ egg case, Florida softshell turtle, Peninsula Cooter, tadpoles & froglets.
